Texas Smart Cities Summit 2019
This first Texas Smart Cities Summit will bring together leaders from government, non-profits, higher ed, and diverse companies to share information on the leading practices in smart cities efforts, to share ideas and experiences, and to discuss and plan new efforts to accelerate smart cities development in Texas. The knowledge and plans resulting from this first Texas Smart Cities Summit will be valuable to people in communities of all scales and locations.
Cities are home to more than half of the world’s population and the great majority of the economic productivity and innovation, but they also face challenges brought by scale and density. Smart city initiatives can help cities save money while improving quality in operations and services delivery. Just as most companies and large organizations are now using its data to improve, cities are beginning to do the same. The challenges for cities are larger in scope and more complex in interdependence, but the benefits can be tremendous for both people and the planet.
Smart city approaches can make life better for all city residents and visitors when designed and implemented properly and fairly. The term 'smart' refers to the use of technology to collect and manage extensive digital data, and to enable advanced analytics on that data to improve outcomes in all aspects of cities: mobility, safety, sustainability, health, environmental quality, economic development, and more. At the Texas Smart Cities Summit we will reflect on successful smart city solutions addressing these aspects and collaborate on how to improve and implement them into our communities.
In this first year, we will focus on the large metropolitan areas of Texas. These large Texas cities face many challenges that are unique, and enhanced by scale. Even with this emphasis, attendance is open to all and much of the content will be relevant to communities of all scales. In subsequent years the Summit will grow in size and scope, and the presenters will be selected to include the smaller cities and the rural communities, as they are important parts of the fabric and culture of Texas. Join us for this exciting day as we will explore the possibilities for Texas Cities.
